Beginning of the Name of the Nokdara is From Lepcha word "Nok Hlo" Nok in Lepcha Language Meaning Black, hazy or Cold and Hlo implies Hills, later Nepali pilgrims starts to call it Nokdara meaning Nok Hills, Dara mean Hill in Nepali Language.

Another controversy of the Name of Nokdara is named after an individual's name called Naakta Lepcha.
